April is National Autism Awareness Month
April is National Autism Awareness Month. There is a high prevalence of autism in our country with 1 in 68 children having Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is important for parents to recognize these early signs:
- During infancy, your child does not like to be cuddled and does not make eye contact with his/her caregiver(s)
- Your child is not speaking as well as other children his age, or when he/she speaks he/she only repeats back what has been said to him/her
- Your child exhibits repetitive motor behaviors such as hand or finder flapping, rocking, swaying or toe-walking
If your child is displaying any of these symptoms, you should consult with your pediatrician.
